Hello all hope you've been out and swinging
We ( B.o.B ) have been working an area that was a colonial road
We just started this site this year but so far
We have pulled an 8 reale 1 reale a few coppers , and some relics
Today was a good day !
I was out with Bartek he did good with 6 nice flat buttons and some coins
I pulled 1 toasted copper , a shield nic , store token , three buttons
And a stunning silver (hall marked need help please ) I think is a snuff box in a one condition
That was the find of the day !!
Thanks for looking happy hunting good luck

Wow - very nice, never even had a piece of one!

Great save-- love it :occasion14:

That snuff box is gorgeous!

Congrats........Great Saves

Everything is incredible about that right down to the amazing dark toning. Most of us who dig old sites are either looking for early coins and military items, and those tend to be what the best finds are almost every hunt.. but what a great surprise getting something like that. I was just thinking the other day, asking myself when was the last time I found something that was really great that was not a coin or button, and I could not come up with anything. Something like that would definitely give me or anyone else an answer.

I've been thinking about it & I think this is a rare enough find in such great condition that it deserves to be on the banner!

My vote is now in...........

Any ideas on the ewe ?

No luck yet on the other impression, but I've never looked into makers marks before so it's like swimming with one arm even with Google. Hopefully one of the sterling experts sees this.

I also took a look at the "ewe" last night and didn't come up with anything. It really is like swimming with one arm to those of us who don't really know much about these except for what a quick googling tells us. ha Best I can tell its either the Makers Mark or a Dutch Date Code. The earlier 1800's dutch date codes are a cursive letter, but none seem to match up with this "ewe" looking thing... so perhaps it is a makers mark. Hopefully one of the silver experts chime in otherwise the link I posted earlier (Dutch Hallmarks - Encyclopedia of Silver Marks, Hallmarks & Makers' Marks (scroll to the bottom)) has a forum they say can help identify marks.

Once again, KILLER find and in incredible condition.

Hey thanks ,hopefully someone will re ognize the marks

Charlie. Excellent snuff box and the construction is superior to today's standards. After holding it in my hands I am with Crusader in saying this is a banner find. It's in great shape, unusual, and I've not seen on on Tnet. My vote is going in.

Yes, if you commissioned a silversmith to do that work today, I bet it would cost you $1000.

I vote banner as well. That piece is one of a kind & the craftsmanship is down right amazing :icon_thumright:
