Detector(s) used
Tesoro Silver uMax
Primary Interest:
Relic Hunting
Returned for the 3rd or 4th time to a demolished house site in the woods in eastern KS, this time on my bicycle. When I got there, I discovered that my rear tire had ground a deep notch into my Tesoro Silver uMax's searchcoil. There is a glimpse of metal at the bottom of the notch. But the detector still works fine, and I found a silver ring, an iron whatsit, a fence staple, and a live 12 gauge shotgun shell. The ring was lying on top of the forest floor and I didn't see it until I went back to the location I had marked with a white plastic rod with surveyor's day-glo flagging tied to it. The rod was stuck right through the ring. This is the second silver ring and the second live shotgun shell I've found at the site.

The ring fits my middle finger perfectly.

Any ideas on the whatsit? it looks like it joins 2 rods together, attaches to a surface with 2 screws, and might have a set screw. It's seen better days.

Great finds ,, Sounds like a good spot to hit many times. Thanks for the post

That's one sweet ring! Now excuse me while I go grind a big groove into my search coil...Ddf

just cover the notch with some two part epoxy. should be ok.

Done! No hint of a problem since.

I have found live ammunition before. Falls outa pockets while hunting and what not. But that is a nice silver ring.
Good hunt I'd say.
