Slim pickins in michigan

hello, i went to another beach in michigan (around the thumb) and the world must be getting smaller because i saw another MD'er out on the beach. this make 4 i've seen all year as opposed to 0 for the last few years. Well, he's from a while away, so my beach is safe 8) .

Well, i found a watch (waterlogged) and a bunch of clad. I also remembered to get a pick of the trash. I know that ring is out there

Your beach is not safe......... The guy is the only one you saw at that time. Many are now using the Excal after reading these posts in the forum. You just need to go often and stay long.

No beach is safe. i went out today and did not find a thing just pull tabs . Mean while my buddy pulled out 4 nice pieces of gold. It is a game of inches you have to be lucky to walk over the gold. Nobody ever gets it all.

luckily, i'm the closest to the beach, i have the best MD in the county (to my knowledge) and the only underwater MD (to my knowledge)

Even better, the people before me are skipping all those nickel signals, which leaves me with all the rings! (as you can see by the 20 year old pull tabs)

The competition has grown dramaticly over the last few years.My schedule doesnt allow me to beat them to the finds, however, Ive found that simply being a "better" detectorist still nets me some finds in heavily hunted areas.Covering areas so slowly as to no miss a thing.Digging weak or broken signals.Going a little deeper or a little further out of the traffic areas, including right at the waters edge where trash tends to accumulate.And pop tabs....If Im finding pop tabs, Im in the right spot and Im about to find gold.

Like Sandman said no beach is safe. I rarely see any water hunters,but I can tell they have been there. I can see shallow holes with water moss in them. One morning I got to the beach real earily. Sure enough in the deep water in the early sun I could see the out line of a guy moveing slow. Yeah a guy with an Excalibur 800. First one I have ever seen besides mine. Shallow holes everywhere. I got less than a $1.00 that day. Mike.

One way to get more targets is to cover more ground per sweep. This is done with a large coil. However if you have a Tiger Shark and the discontinued Clean Sweep Coil you get the stuff in your pouch before the other guy sweeps his little coil over it. You watch the other guys hunt and hardly anyone overlaps using the concentric coils while the DD coils don't need to be overlapped as much.

You can use these Tesoro Widescan coils on most of the other models now. Beware the old timey guys using a Sov. GT and a WOT coil. No sense walking behind him.

Yes it seems like when I go out for a one a week hunt (Monday) I almost see someone else working the water. Many more than years back. If something wasn't dropped within the last few days it probably already scooped up
