I found this metal snake today which looks like it is probably brass. It is about an inch and a half long and about five eights of an inch wide. I did not know what it was until I got it home and cleaned it up.
I also found this button. It looks gold plated and on the back it reads, M L & W H Scovill , around the out side and in the center it looks like it says Extra Super with something else I cannot read.
I also found a button at this spot about two weeks ago that has on the back Double Gilt .
If any one has any info on these items it will be greatly appreciated.

Salty, the snake is part of a military buckle. Civil war or earlier. Nice find!

Great finds, like the snake buckle piece.

Great finds WYG!!!
Love them little snakes, very cool buckles....
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

Good stuff!

The button is a civilian Golden Age gilt, c. 1827-40. The backmark should read "J. M. L. & W. H. SCOVILL
WATERBURY
" [Connecticut] and, in the center, "EXTRA SUPERFINE" (referring to the quality of the finish).

Great snake buckle
