I did some research on line and was checking it out when I noticed a park I'd not seen before. (my research remains inconclusive) After seeing so many of you still finding silver in these old parks, I decided to give it a whirl. Not even 5 minutes in and I found my first coin of the hunt--a 1943-S merc! Of course I was stoked with the vision of silvers dancing in my head, but 2 hours more hunting only yielded a 58-D wheat and a pile-o-clad. Oh, and that silver plated $100 bill--its dated 1974. I'm still happy to have found the merc, but it sure did a psych-job on me by being the first thing I found!

Do any one have any homepages with info on that 100$ bill plate.. i have never seen those before thats a cool find.. and imagen i am only 25 miles away from Portland OR. danm danm

Thanks Tiger. The only additional info that I can give you about 'the bill' is that it has solder marks on the back as if it were originally a pin. I've never seen one before either.

Nice find on that merc and $100 bill. My first merc was last Friday and it also was my first find of the day. Best thing that it was no more than 15 feet from my driveway on a plot of land that a local church owns. They gave me permission to search there grounds (which are quite a few places) and I figured I'd start with just going down my street and staying near the grass/street border. Lots of people walk this street so must have done it in the past.

MLW, that's a great silver piece....is it a tie tack? Nice job on the mercury, too.

That's the way my hunts go......find the best coins in the first 15 minutes. I could search for hours afterwards, and not find anything.

Thanks Mona!  I think the 'bill' was just a lapel pin, since there is an elongated solder mark on the back (but no pin).
