Found with 1700s targets. Thinking a musket piece, maybe corner of the butt plate.

Definitely similar. It's pretty thin though so was probably more decorative than functional.

Yes, there is a break at the top but no idea how much is missing. (Was my friend's find)

Seeing a picture it is a very good match for a French escutcheon, just not as solid as the others I've seen dug.
