Solo Scouting Mission locates NEW CW Site

[BuckleBoy]

Hello All,

Went scouting today to try and find us yet another plantation site here in Louisiana. I ended up stumbling into a Civil War site instead. Only did a couple rows, but came back with 2 dropped minieballs, a Maynard Carbine bullet (my first!), Spencer shell casing, and a brass stirrup fragment that matches one on Sgt. Riker's website listed as a "US artillery stirrup." I also got an Indian Head penny and the small end of a cufflink. I'm not up on my stirrups, feeling much more confident about spurs these days, so I'll need some help for an ID. No I haven't gotten these relics cleaned up yet, but will add some photos when I get the time. After I dug these relics I saved the site for my buddy Shanegalang and I to return to soon.

Best Wishes,

Buck

Nothing wrong hitting a CW camp when looking for a plantation site! Lots of history there. Wish you good luck on this camp! It will be nice for a change!

Looks like a successful scouting trip Buck. Now you have a nice, potentially productive site to return to. Be interesting to see what you pull outta there.

Congrats on some nice finds. Maybe a CW buckle will come out of the ground on that spot.

I hope it continues to produce. We seem to find a couple CW items here and there. But what distinguishes this site so far is that the finds were more numerous, and all the bullets were drops. Fingers crossed! It's raining non-stop down here right now, so unless I borrow an airboat I'm not gonna be returning to this site over the weekend
