Hello All,

Went scouting today to try and find us yet another plantation site here in Louisiana. I ended up stumbling into a Civil War site instead. Only did a couple rows, but came back with 2 dropped minieballs, a Maynard Carbine bullet (my first!), Spencer shell casing, and a brass stirrup fragment that matches one on Sgt. Riker's website listed as a "US artillery stirrup." I also got an Indian Head penny and the small end of a cufflink. I'm not up on my stirrups, feeling much more confident about spurs these days, so I'll need some help for an ID. No I haven't gotten these relics cleaned up yet, but will add some photos when I get the time. After I dug these relics I saved the site for my buddy Shanegalang and I to return to soon.

Looks very promising to say the least, I look forward to seeing your future finds from that site

You may have finally hit the camp that you knew was in the area. Wish we were there-LOL. WTG, Q.

Nice find, what is the weather like where your at?

Lots of finds for a few rows BB, looks like your onto something good there. Good luck on your return hunt.

I hope so, my friend. Would love to see some US Civil War finds coming up. I've been low on bullets and military buttons this past year.

Great job locating the site. I know Vino is probably drooling reading this post. I wish someone would offer to take him to a good CW site. He's such a nice guy.

Congrats on finding a great looking site. Are you and Shane gonna cherry pick before you let the Missus find the good stuff? Hope you get some more nice relics.

Congrats on the new camp, looks real promising.

Like that Maynard bullet. Site looks promising!

Nice. Love the stirrup!

and the finds will come, can't wait to see them

Haha, I'm trying to talk her into getting away from work long enough to dig with us.

Very exciting! Can't wait to see more.

Not dug a Maynard either. Hopefully a lot more awaits the Bandits. I would have to think a "True Louisiana Hunt" should have an air boat ride don't you? Good luck on the spur I.D.

that's a great idea!

By the way, I realized after closely examining the Maynard and reading up/looking at examples that I'd dug a portion of the casing as well! The casings were in two pieces, braised together, and the brass disc (bottom) evidently must separate from the cylinder in some dug examples. I remembered that I'd dug a strange looking disc that looked like the bottom of a shotgun shell casing (that's what I'd dismissed it as). It was absolutely the bottom of a Maynard cartridge. The hole in the center of the disc is the tell tale sign. I'd imagine that some diggers recover these and toss them out not realizing what they are.
