Hi Folks!

I found this nifty little thingmobob many years ago and it's been laying in one of my junk drawers ever since. With the price of gold going up, I figured it might be worth taking another look at it. After doing some searching on the web, I can't identify it. It looks like it might be military or police because it has a pair of chevrons on it.

On the reverse side is an inscription that reads - 14K EMB and something that looks like CTO (logo?) and a little (r) registered symbol.

It also has 2 small gemstones set in it that are either diamonds or cubic zirconia.

Can anyone tell me what this is and what value it might have?

Thanks in advance!

MikeG

totally wild guess, but could it be for years of service ( in increments of five years for United Airlines for example, which uses diamonds and wings)

Thanks Johnny. I never considered that it might be airline related.

It weighs 1.76 grams, so it's gold value is probably small. But if the diamonds are real, it might be worth messing with. :)

Best regards,

Galactic stone, you are too kind. I doubt if we'll have much luck narrowing it down to the company or (probably semi civilian) branch that used chevrons though, but we may!

Nice catch Big Cypress Hunter! :)

That is similar. So is it correct to assume that it's solid gold? I was wondering if EMB might mean it's electroplated or gold fill or something.

I looked at the stones with a loupe, but I'm no gemologist, so I don't know if I am looking at a diamond or not. Given the size, I guess they might be a .25 carat each. If so, that's a half carat of diamond and that might be worth liquidating. That's what I am hoping. :)

Could the chevrons and stars (diamond stars) indicate a level that someone achieved in the martial arts?
They would indicate progress and achievement in this sport. Maybe someone won a contest?

After reading the links, I conclude its an Employee Recognition Pin 1945-1955? era. I dont know what EMB means.

Looks like a "chevron" gas symbol. No two diamonds are alike so, if Diamonds are real you will amost always see "clouds" or inclusions.

Corporal chevron symbol given to a service member or police officer as a congratulatory item on a promotion? Monty

"I know airlines wouldn't hand out pins of gold and diamonds...LOL
Look at mine...cheap quality...LOL

Elle darling, unfortunately you are wrong. United Airlines hands out good service pins to their emplyees every five years which contain a small diamond (closer in size to a diamond chip, but a diamond none the less).

Re: Gold Tie or Lapel Pin with possible diamonds. What is it?

Elle, these were some of my wife's dealios which first reminded me of "years of service". United would give you the little diamond in the wing for every five years service. The medal they'd give out after ten years with a diamond for every five years of service (20 years service in this one). Notice they incorporate the chevron also into the medal.

Johnnyi...that is really a nice piece.
Thank you for sharing and taking the time to snap a picture.
Ask your wife if she ever wore the hat with her uniform. I wanted one so badly years ago...we could wear a hat but only if we found one of the originals (uniform company stopped making new ones).
I had flyers posted in New York and London...but no luck.
Imagine now what the vintage airline uniforms would go for?

Anyways...see if this is correct.
EMB stands for "embossed"? On Ebay an item description says: "You are bidding on a Pin made of 10 Embossed Gold and other metals"-----10K EMB.

http://cgi.ebay.com.sg/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170355428149

Embossed definition: The design or text formed in the metal is raised above its surface, the opposite of engraving.
But is this only one definition of "embossed"? Doesn't the Ebay item description sound like it has to do with the mixture of the amount of gold and other metals combined?
