Hi All,
At first I thought this was some obscure Colonial issue.
I saw 'nite' and 'Libert', obviously a US coin, Not So :-[
'Libertad Egalite Fraternite' take up almost the entire circumference.
Is currently 30mm and 12.7 grams.
I know there is little detail, I've spent a long time browsing images online and cannot find a match. note the image like a spoked wheel or scallop in photos 5, 7 & 8.
Would appreciate if anyone can date and ID this coin
Other side shows no detail, extreme pitting.
thanks for looking & HH to all

Re: Toasted French Copper

Thanks Bramble,
I think that palm frond on reverse is the 'wheel' image on mine.
The EGF inscription differs in its placement,
Definitely a Haitian coin, different denomination, found an image online, just odd there's no sign of the 50 at bottom :dontknow:
we are on the right track!
also found that the 50 is 29.5 mm, my coin is heavily corroded and slightly over 30 mm, says it's 'copper nickel', is that copper alloy or 'cupronickel' :icon_scratch:
Thank You

Thanks Again Bramble for the Haitian Tip :sign13:
That's good enough, I'm satisfied with '19th Century Haitian Copper'
my first :hello2:
Looked at many coins and can't find one with all three words made from copper.
Made a pic with marks where 'L' in Liberte, And 'E' in fraterne are placed on coin.
Great Digs To All

Nice pic! :icon_thumleft: I keep looking at the 1886 one and it looks so close to me - what are you thinking is off about it?

Hello, if you speak of the photo I found (50C)
it's that it's listed as 'Copper/nickel' which is like a modern US nickel.
If you mean the 2 C you posted, it's the placement of the words.
I can't find a copper that uses the 3 words with so little space remaining :icon_scratch:
Haitian Copper, who'd have thought :dontknow:
