Some Kind Of Handle?

I was cleaning out my metal detecting bag and found this handle from last years hunt, theres wood still inside so it looks like it once was attached to a wood handle.

I dont think hood latch would have wood in it. It was most likely something on a pole or handle.. Is it brass? So far no match on the transom window idea.

The boat hook posted is 6 inches long and is called the "Double 6" model. . Maybe they made a smaller size. It does seem kinda small. Hard to visualize sometimes. http://marinestore.co.uk/davey-boat-hooks-galvanised-and-gunmetal.html

Is that a dime, quarter or half dollar?

I suspect the coin is a quarter. That would make the shaft smaller than a dime . That would NOT make a very sturdy/strong wood handle. Also no set screw to hold the wood in place. I can not expain the wood, but it still looks like a hood latch to me.

I suppose the wood could have been jammed in later. Knowing what type metal may help. That little side hook may be a key clue.

So if its a half dollar, the wood pole would be at least the size of a broom stick?
