@Ahab8,,,,,It's close but I would expect to see a S+D not a S&D, with counterstamps every symbol & dot counts including the outer shape.
Good catch Cru. I thought with the letters and the serrated rectangle it was prob it but you're absolutely right about the symbolism. I'm amazed at how many known counterstamps there are

Nice Aqua ! I am surprised no date on the Hibernia everything else is there ! I love the counter stamped half penny ! And it's listed ! S & D in a serrated rectangle ! Nice stuff ! MaineRelic

I live in Halifax, but the site ive been at is in Colchester county... Hard to find good spots in and around Halifax that haven't already no doubtidly been hunted or developed over as cities do :P

Awesome Finds! Love that counter stamp, still waiting for my 1st. Adds character to the coin. Almost looks like it was a Hibernia.

Always had a thing for countermarked coins, but would only call it the best of the day if you can attach an ID to it... and many you can't.

The Hibernia however, I think you can, and believe this is it. (Don't let the price get you excited - because it's not the case for a dug find)

1769 GEO-III EF+, AVG+. OLD DULL SCRAP ON REV. OR POSS STRIKE THRU? CLOSED G'S. FINALE TOP OF CROWN LOOKS LIKE MAPLE LEAF!?

$525.00

That SD counterstamp is a beauty! Like Crusader, I've never seen such an elaborate counterstamp! That one may actually be listed somewhere so you may be able to ID it! Nice find!

The spear head is just a geofact...a natural rock. I'm an avid hunter and collector of native artifacts and that piece shows no signs of being worked by man.

Unfortunately that is not it. And if it was listed it would probably be like the last one shown... S + D in serrate square.

ty Romeo...

Thought as much about the ..SPEARHEAD....just a coincidence but still kinda cool. Will keep it anyhow good for a chuckle.

The S+D turned out to be a decent find.... was at a spot I have been looking at for the last year or so..got permission. Down to door knocking to get threw the summer detecting .

Hey buddy your counterstamp is a merchant mark and is on the exonumia site. Don't have time for more research but that should give you a start. Good luck and have a good day

ty for the info...but like Crusader said the & and + makes a difference here.

Would be too cool to find an ID.

Killer finds AQUA!1 I love the counter stamped coin.

ty Steve

Had no idea what it was when I dug it...great surprise it turned out to be,

Of all your finds I think the counter stamped coin is the winner

Hi Ironhorse....

Winner winner chicken dinner !!!

Cousin Ed will have to wait to beat me next time.

Nice pile of coins there guys, but my favorite is that counterstamped copper. That's a very cool looking and unique piece. Maybe with some research and a little luck you can figure out what the "SD" represents. Nice hunt!

TY Bill D

I wouldn,t know where to look...maybe someone will come up with something .

Pretty cool how there is always something new to find !!

excellent coins. the one with the heavy counter stamp is bad-a$$. personally, I think the point is natural

Yup.. Romeo 1 is pretty sure it is just a natural stone.....better luck next time I guess !!

Looks like Iron Patch has teh ID correct on the hibernia...

Can see the 69 on it but not the 17...shame as the rest the coin is in great shape.

Think there is a significant difference in the & and + as Cru pointed out. Seems to be the ase also when you look at the table Ahab posted.

ty Rebel...

Is definitely a welcomed addition to the collection.

It's doesn't matter if you have the full date if the rest of the coin is a match. It's basically the same as having 9 out of 10 points matching on a finger print, just because you can't see the 10th doesn't mean that wasn't the guy who ate your lobster!
:happysmiley:

I have the countermarked coins book.
