Some questions about returning coins

I notice a lot of people are re-rolling their coins and etc. My main bank is TD Bank which has coin counting machines. The machines do halves. Is there a limit or something I'm not aware of (I haven't tried dumping any coins yet, just started a few days ago) that people don't use the free coin counting machines? As far as I'm aware I take the printout and they can deposit it right into my bank account.

Also I'm reading that people never inform the tellers that they're hunting for silver or errors. I find honesty works best, you don't have to tell them how often you find silver, but you can tell them how long it takes so they lose interest.

I believe in being honest but do not give out the silver secret.Once you tell them the tellers will cherry pick all your potential finds and any potential finds of fellow crh'rs.The s word is a cuss word inside a bank.Don't give out anymore info than needed.Word spreads very quickly in those banks.

I would for sure rather dump in a free coin counter than re-roll.. But there are a few variables, that you will learn and expirience in time. For instance, I very rarely can walk into a bank with a coin machine and dump $1,000 dollars in halves without jamming the machine, filling it up, breaking it... etc. (which when any of those things happen, I will usually end up spending more time sitting there at the coin counter than if I just re-roll the halves and do it that way). It is also going to depend on where you are wanting to dump. If you order from brinks, and then dump back at a brinks bank, you will going throuh your own dumps in a very short amount of time. (in my area anyways.)

As far as honesty, I hear what you are saying, the big deal about talking to tellers is that once you or I educate them on silver coin, and then they figure out how much they are worth and how easy they would be to find being a teller... You have just added one more person to compete in a game that is becoming harder and harder to score in because of all the new competition. What is even worse about a teller who is now a silver hunter, you just had a pick up bank go from where your chances of getting silver are going to go down significantly because any silvers will have to sneak past the teller(s) now, where as before, if there was silver, all you had to do was pick it up... Make sense?

I also agree though about the "honesty" policy, you just have to be selectively honest. For instance, when a teller asks me about why im interested in so many coin etc... I will usually play the "I'm a collector" card. If (and it happens very rarely where I am) the teller says, oh, you looking for silvers.... The answer is simple, "well silver is always nice but it has gotten so rare to find anymore that I do not anticipate finding any. then I usually switch it up, by asking them a question... Why do you mention silver? Did you find any? Do you have some?

Maybe where you folks live the tellers are daft about silver. Not here guys. Most of the tellers are at least 35 years old (some older than me - I'm 58) and they know about silver. Playing the "collector card" here just gets you a "sure - no problem" look and a big grin when you respond to a query about silver. If they ask whether you're looking for silver don't kid yourself. They wouldn't ask if they didn't know. And I'd wager where you're at the tellers probably know too. They are just fishing.

Well that's understandable. I lived in So Cal for 39 years. Enough said.

Argh! how many times does it need to be explained before people get it? I dont care how many of you think that telling tellers about collecting gets you more silver. Im not sure where you all live but there is just no way I could get more silver by doing that. There must be over 10 tellers who would keep silver for every 1 that would give it away after being taught just what silver is and what it is worth. The facts support my theory at least in the NY , CT , NJ and PA areas. I have found [today in fact] tellers who give silver up knowing it is silver. But i have found way more tellers keeping it now that some [ naive person in my opinion] went out of their way looking and teaching an unknowing teller about silver.

Anyone has every right to tell everybody about silver, in fact people can take out ads put up bill boards and get tatoos about silver. But the fact remains these are not smart things to do if you actually like finding it.

Okay! For now on I will never mention any quantity of what I find. Although the only time I did I told her it took me 2hours to find one 40%. I like the sound of collector, bc I have been keeping favorite coins my whole life. And thanks for the tip about those coin machines jammijng up! Or filling up. That's exactly the type of problem I was looking to hear about.

I used one of those coin counting machines for the first time today just to dump a few rolls of halves @ a bank I don't even have an acct with because the teller told me she wouldn't take them - I had to use the machine - but it works really well - and there's no fee and the bank gives me my money or more rolls of other coin denominations if I want so I think I will start using these machines to dump my halves in the future. I don't usually order them - I just buy what banks already have so my volume isn't too large on halves - but I still get good scores so I'm happy.

There was a woman using the machine before me who had about $660 (according to the machine) in a bucket she dumped and I kept thinking - man (or woman in this case) I sure wish I could hunt through her coins.

I'm a "coin collector" -now what coins I collect or why is my "personal " bussiness --or when and if I find any silver or sell it --that too is my "personal" bussiness.

never ever admit to anything related to silver , never talk about finding silver or its value to a teller * least you train a "SILVER BLOCKER" WHO WILL ALWAYS GET TO THE SILVER BEFORE YOU DO -BEING THEY WORK THERE.

I made the mistake of mentioning a really nice score I had recently to a teller at another bank that I've also made a few nice scores at with on hand half dollars they get from time to time. Right after I said it I as thinking - now that was a stupid thing to say. Since then I haven't had any luck at that bank.Sometimes when it comes to coins and similar topics I have a difficult time keeping my big mouth shut.
