I was detecting an old 1870s farm site and found this strange looking tool. Not sure what it could have been used for. It looks like it has some paint on the end of it. It had a slight spoon shape in one side and is formed to a slight peak on the back. I have found all sorts of iron in the same small area. I found a horseshoe and axe head here a couple years ago. I have also found another mystery item that looks like a cobblers shoe last in this spot.

I've seen those, but I forget where or what they were used for, except I think I remember they were used by plumbers back in the day they sealed the cast iron pipe with oakum and lead. The more I think about it the more I think I'm right.
