I just picked up a used Impulse with the 10.5 inch coil.My Impulse with the 8" coil is just about working now(threshold and volume don't work, and Fisher no longer repairs these),but it still detects pretty well in very shallow water.(I am saving it for parts) Anyway, I got a strong signal with the newer Impulse that turned out to be a single staple! I now carry a collapsable magnet to speed up target recovery.Who would have thought a 10.5 " coil would pick up a staple. The Impulse reminds me of driving a stick shift,it requires constant adjustment but after a while you don't even think about it. Happy hunting!

There was talk of having automatic retuning to save the need for three arms but that was to be a third part mod. Big step forward was Dave Johnson coming up with the idea a scavaging current from the coil and re-using it so we got away from having large/heavy battery packs.

My Impulse 8 is still going strong... after many years. I love it! TTC

It is still a goodie.:occasion14:
