2015 was a good year. For life and for treasures. While many hunger and thirst, we have the luxury to hunt down treasures.
I am lucky enough to have great digging buddies. How fun would it be to treasure hunt alone?
I started the year (Jan 6) with a 1848 Mechanic and ended it today with a 1744 Spanish cobb.
Life is good.

Wonderful recovery and beautiful coin. Congratulations.

It's hard to find the words that would do justice to a find like that. That's a gold doubloon correct? Eight Escudo right? What's ever been posted on T-Net for hammered Spanish gold. Wow!!!!

An few have been posted by the wreck drivers, but I think this is the first land post.

I have heard tale of a Spanish gold cob that was found on a French & Indian War site in Pennsylvania - a site that I had hunted many times prior to the alleged discovery. It was supposedly found by an absolute novice in an area full of modern trash on the fringe of the main encampment area. The guy was taken there by a friend of mine, but before we became friends. Of course, nobody got a picture, and my friend doesn't talk to this guy anymore ???:BangHead:

In the condition its in it can be worth alot. Great find. Unless its counterfeit

I am a new detector this year and have had a good year. I have learned alot about my machine and how to use it but the two most important things I have learned are research, research, research and be willing to dig, dig, dig.... Great find and I hope you have a great new year.

Just now saw this post and I must say; One absolutely beautiful hunk of gold!!! Congratulations on one of (the?) best find posted on t-net! That is one stunning find! And a slave tag also, mind blowing!!

Even one is an outstanding find!!! Could you imagine finding a chest of them. WHAT A GO!!!

I am SPEECHLESS. An absolutely OUT OF THIS WORLD find! Just incredible!

MAJOR congratulations on that dig -- just awesome!

FIND of a LIFETIME!

Steve

Not 100% sure myself. I was told it's a slave tag of some sort. I'd like to know more on that too.

Yes it is an 1848 Slave tag or badge only made in Charleston SC. The occupation of the wearer was mechanic. They are copper and collectible especially in this area. More information can be found in a book by Harry Hutchins and his brother.

I cant wait to find a gold coin. But that slave tag can be linked back to a person in history. I will do research, if you have a cleaner photo. I think that would be more of an interesting connection to history.

That is BEAUTIFUL. It's pretty much the Holy Grail of metal detecting imo.

Big congrats on that one. I've dug quite a few really nice gold rings and even a chain but I hope that one day; just once (well; at least once) that I come across a gold coin. I can imagine the rush you must have had when that baby appeared.

That is just awesome

Thanks for sharing

If I found that I swear I would be looking around smiling to see who planted it

Cant stop looking I try to imagine how many of those are at the bottom of the ocean Ive seen Mel fisher and and the Wells family finding all kinds of treasure that is a dream job. Great stuff Im happy for you hope you find and post more
