Notice it said pulse and Discontinued.......... Means you have to have a pulse detector that takes spare coils with the same type connector. It does say it is deeper than round coils, but are there any round coils that are the same size, 16".

I guess what I was wondering was if square coils in comparison to round ones with the same dimensions would win out in depth. And yes I have seen a round coil that big. My grandpa has one for an old minlab gold unit about the size of a trash can lid.

No, square coils do not go deeper. Round is best.

Thanks Carl. I figured the big name manufacturers had it right. I was just wondering.

HI Texas gopher, on physical things like electronics, I put my money on my friend CARL every time, but on the paranormal ?? he hehe

For professional metal detectors the Geonics EM61 series of instruments have rectangular 0.5 by 1.0 meter coils and have used them for years. They are time domain sensors with four time gates. They have two horizontal coils separated vertically by 30 cm, the bottom loop has a transmit and a receive coil, while the top loop is another receiver coil used for depth estimation. They are the most widely used sensor in the world for unexploded ordnance surveys and just looking for buried metal. They cost about $30K with the data logger, but that doesn't include the GPS.

Dear Texasgopher;
Square shaped coils only work well on square shaped objects, such as square coins, etc, whereas round coils work better on round objects, like round shaped coins, etc. Since most buried objects are round shaped, it stands to reason that round coils wil work better than square coils.
Your foolin' around with ya friend;

LOL :laughing9: Gosh i don't know why I didn't think of that in the first place. Of course, it all makes sence now! Thanks Lamar!
