Standing Liberty Quarter (type II)

Hello all,

I just found a 1918 Bare-Breasted Standing Liberty Quarter.

It is a type 2 with the stars under the flying eagle.

This is my oldest coin found so far...

I just bought a Garrett ACE 250 today.

I headed to the park for a test drive over to the happy hunting grounds again.

Found my third nickel ever right off the bat!

Then the Ace 250 hit hard on fifty cents!

There it was four inches deep right on top of the plug looking at me!

I looked for the other quarter but could not find it. LOL

I wounder if anyone know what one is worth now days?

Rusty...unless I am mistaken the only year the SLQ were bare breasted was 1917 and that year the type 1 was bare breasted and then they corrected in on the 1917 type II and all others following that were corrected. The sure way to tell if a SLQ is a type I is that their will be no stars on the bottom reverse of the coin.

1916 & 1917 Type one is Bare Brested.

It is hard to tell on Some Type Twos But she is Definately Clothed
on yours I'm sure . Sorry

Her shirt seems to have worn smooth on Most Standing Liberties
This is Why she appears to be Showing in Dug & Well worn

Thanks for the help.
The date is covered and I can not see the date only part of a "0" or part of the "8".
I called the guy at The Coin Shop today on the phone after I washed it, a little bit.
He said, about same as you. He did say, they change during the year 1917 making it a Type 2 as well as others that followed.
In 1918 the corrected it by covering with a chain pattern. This one does not have the chain pattern. (until cleaned)
Making this one a type 2 or one that was corrected with the three stars... (I can only see maybe one star for sure)
It needs cleaning very badly. The coin shop guy said, it worth about $10.00. To clean it would cost a lot more that $10.00
I just happy I found old coin for a change. I am good with calling it a SLQ.

Great find regardless of the year or type.Silver should clean fairly easy.You might want to check the
cleaning and preservation section to tnet.

For sure it is a "S"

What is left of the date is ??20.

Also, it has across from the mint mark, the number "17" near the bottem star her left hand side.

Sometimes silver will come out of the ground stained black. It usually requires electrolysis to remove this without damaging the coin.
