Well we went back to the site where i found the 1876CC seated dime. Nickel_buff1935 and I were still searching for the homeowners earing. Well we decided since she was cutting the bushes that surround the front lawn when she lost it...We should get as close into them as we could. I worked one side and Kevin worked the other. I was using my new DD shooter coil i just got from whites. Well i guess it loves nickels because i found around 20 of them. I was floored when i pulled a 1898 V nickel at half a inch under there. The next find was a 1903 IH and in the same hole a buckle with the Mason symbol on it and below that is says PAT 1871 & 1872. This was the first mason item i have found. Then i look over at Kevin and i see him digging. It seemed he is having trouble locating his target in the hole. I swung the XLT over it and found that he was a few inches off from the primary target due to some trash near by. Well out pops 2 Large cents that someone soldered together??? On one side you can see 184 and it is either 8 or 0 or 3 but they were very dirty. The other side was half caked with mud so I am not sure the date. Why would someone stick 2 large cents together? It almost sounds like they are hollow. Well i decided right then and there that i MUST find something to keep up so i started methodically scanning as deep into the bushes as i could. Well it payed off.....My next signal was right at the base of one of the HUGE bushes....It was a strong quarter signal but the VDI appeared to read as clad. I am unsure if this small coil changes how it reads VDI's......Well anyway...Out popped from a depth of 3 inches a 1917 Standing liberty quarter in near AU condition. It is simply PERFECT looking. It is one of my favorite coins to find!! At that point it was getting dark so we packed it in. So my 2 day total from the site is...

1 1898 V nickel
1 1903 Indian Head
1 1941 Wheaty
1 1941 Mercury dime
1 Suspender buckle (1871&2 mason)
1 musket ball
1 1917 Standing Liberty quarter. (freakin insane condition)
23 clad nickels
3 clad dimes
4 clad pennies
and some other nameless relics

I only grabbed pix of the standing lib and mason thingy....I hope no one minds...My good camera is still without batteries so i used my old one...Pix are kinda bunk.

This coin has not even been rinsed off. I hope the pics do it justice.

Anyone have a guess as far as the grade of this quarter?

I've found a few SLQ's but that's the best SLQ detector find I've ever seen on any post. Congrats! ;) ....Nice Mason find as well. You've got a great area to detect. Keep up the great digs.

Thanks James...I am very fortunate to have permission to hunt this site. What really sealed the deal was on our 10th trip to the home we brought the homeowners wife some flowers to plant...She almost cried!!! She follows me around now saying you guys are fun....lol...I think i have a 83 year old admirer......My wife better watch out!!!... After all this woman owns a home from the 1700s....lol

Maybe they needed a thicker coin for the video machine. Got me, weird coin!

:D

I was thinking that maybe they were trying to hide something between the two coins...

A standing Liberty quarter is my fave coin of all time, I hope to find one someday!

Well worth the wait!! Very nice!
