Startin on Dimes

I'm thinking of doing dimes. The draw for me is based in the following question. With Halves I have to order my boxes and wait a week before they arrive. When boxes of dimes are involved, do most banks hold a few boxes in their vault so that I can go and pick them up at any time? I would assume most of the banks bigger than 2 tellers would do this, as they probably also serve businesses that need dimes to make change.

So, for you guys that go pick up dimes...do you order them, or just walk into the bank and ask for a couple boxes? I could probably turn around quite a few thousand dollars in a week because they aren't frowned upon for circulation like the halves.

Probably pretty obvious questions, but I Google searched through the forums and couldn't find any obvious answers. Even LMGTFY.com results would be appreciated

I have only done 6 boxes so far this year, i just go in and ask for a box of dimes, they either have one or not. No need to order in advance, it seems as if they always have dimes on hand where sometimes I got rejected because they did not have enough penny or nickel boxes. That is when I get dimes. In fact. I am going to my bank tomorrow and asking for 2 boxes of dimes, i want to start searching them more often!

I asked the same question a couple weeks ago. I haven't had a ton of success asking for boxes of dimes. Most banks tell me they'd have to order them. I've only had 2 banks that had no problem giving me a box that I didn't order. For the few here that get them from NYC or other huge cities, I'm sure it's much easier to walk in and ask for a box or 2.

When I want to do dimes I have my bank to order me 4 boxes and then I get them that week when they come in. If I want more then 4 I just let them know I will be doing 8 boxes this week and they will let me pick up 4 at a time. When I am out on a road trip and I start asking for dimes toward the end of the day most banks will only give out 1 box at a time......Matt

I start by asking for a box.....if they cannot spare an entire box, then I ask for whatever they can spare (ideally at least $100). Do this at a few banks, and you can have a good amount to search in no time at all.

This will also help lay the groundwork for your pickup strategy, as far as figuring out which banks are most flexible and easygoing and which simply don't want to be bothered with large coin requests.

Let me offer some advice. Find a small branch to dump at. Roll your dumps. You don't have to count, just dump the dimes in a pre-measured tube and slide a wrapper down the tube. It takes no time. Let the Head Teller know that you would like all customer wrapped dimes that aren't yours. Depending on your volume, you can save the branch from having to order dimes, thus saving them money in the long run.

My one branch hasn't ordered dimes in a couple of years.

Get the bags of loose off the machine if you can.

The bank may give you a box or two to start; if you search weekly that will get old to them quick. Just ask them if they will order for you and hold the surplus. Don't be surprised if another hunter poaches those boxes. I always pick up my entire order for that reason.
