Found this near some Civil War items. No one I've showed it to has a clue what it is....not even a guess. It has some Maker's marks on it though, hopefully someone recognizes them. Base of this is about the diameter of a quarter. Thanks!

Interesting the splines on the bottom make me think it was part of something that was geared made to rotate around said object.

Anyone think it's an interchangable sight with "200" being the range?

Good thought, but the OP's appears to be cast. Those are just bent brass on those old switches.

I think it's a very old part to an electrical system or perhaps even a telegraph system. I've seen something like it...somewhere.

Would anyone know what the symbols on it mean? Are they maker's marks, hallmarks, year stamps?

Looks like something that was sewn between 2 pieces of leather with the prongs sticking out through a square hole to clip something into. Possibly a harness fitting of some sort.

The grooves make you think it was made to be clamped to a rod or pipe like on a scaffold. But there's no screw hole or enough flange for clamps. The prongs might be to hold a handle against something when not in use. To me it looks like 20C. Try googling "pn 20C" or "part # 20C" in images.

How about a removable base for an early telescopic sight?

I've thought it was a sight this whole time, but no verification. It looks like it'd line up with a front bead sight easy.

I got no idea what it is, but hey man, it’s by far the nicest one I’ve ever seen !

I believe it to be a rear sight for a rifle.
