Stock lower rod change/update

Recently got another equinox 800. Had a Detect-Ed cf shaft/rod for it. Got an extra coil yesterday, so got the lower rod out of the box to put on that. Noticed they have updated the end with a different design, which now has a large flow hole in the end:

Is the width the same or have they made them a little wider so the ears don’t break so easily.

Did you get the seond one as a backup machine or for a pal? My backup is still a 10 year old Tesoro.
