STONE MORTARS.

Here are a couple of stone mortars, I found on state land a few years ago really nice big mortars.
these are the only two i have ever found , I believe there pretty rare.

Nice "big" examples. What kind of stone are they made from?

So THAT's what those are!!! There was one of those carved into a little rock outcrop, right outside of a cave back up in Missouri where I went to college. It was about chest high, and I always wondered what in the world it was for... so I guess that's what it was for, because it looked just like your first photo! Thanks for posting yours!
