Straight Shaft

Anybody know where I can get a straight shaft for an Excal in the Myrtle Beach area? I live in the area and have next week off. Would be willing to drive a couple of hours.

That looks good. I made my current one but I'm not completely happy with it. Thinking of going at it again but this is the first week I've had off in a few years and I would love to spend the time on the beach instead. Might have to do it though. What did you use for the handle?

Those are nice well made shafts and the price is right too. I use one, but hang the controls from my neck since I hate to keep sliding my arm in and out of the cuff. Plus it takes more weight off the arm. I made mine just so I could tinker and get more length for longer sweeps.

Those all look good. I have a similar set up but wasn't happy with the swing length. I tinkered with it a bit last night and got it a lot better- tried it out this morning. I still wish there was a local guy who at least sold the accessories and what not. I don't mind spending the time drilling out a piece of pipe but don't like the idea of trying to track down parts from several random suppliers. I'm also obviously far too disorganized to order the stuff ahead of time. I also like the over/under idea-would be easier to fit in the trunk but would take more doing to make it at home.

Nice simple job and I'd prefer it as well, being in South Africa and far away from distributors. I also had the bike horn idea for a handle. Now just the rubber/foam grip to source... Thanks for the descriptive pics! It's good learning from the pro's

Hey MT Pockets!
What are those aluminum pieces you used to make your arm cuff? I made a straight shaft, but I'm still using the stock cuff that came with my Excal. Yours looks much nicer.

Also, does anyone know of a supplier that sells the cam knobs for the end of the shaft?

Can you reach over and make adjustments with the knobs with the Excal mounted behind the elbow like that?

Yes it is very easy to do. I have two Excals, both have the straight shafts, you only need to reach over and adjust them. To test, grab a broom like it is a shaft, straighten out your arm now reach just behind your elbow if you can touch it, you can adjust it. At the most if your right handed, you can rotate your wrist counter clock wise which twists the controls towards your face.

I moditified the knobs on mine, I replaced the stock knobs for the sense, threshold and the pinpoint/disc to larger scalaped knobs which makes them very east to turn. I never have to adjust the volume, or discrimination so I left them alone.....
