Strange find on a NY fairground

[No gold in NY]

Had me wondering when I pulled this from the ground. It looks like brass and weighs in at a hefty 39.5g. The back had a nickel size piece of plastic glued to it. Looked like that magnetic plastic, but it was too thin and wasn't magnetic. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Any hallmark on the reverse? It may be a wallet badge that an officer had made for him/herself by an off-brand company. Great find, Congratulations! Sub

I believe a real one includes the officer's rank and badge number.

Gotta love people calling fake anything - had a person say the 1870 seated dollar I found was fake. I doubt it. Regardless- follow the rules and don't be a jerk.

if ya post it your asking for opinions If I found a reale I would go to a coin shop I wouldnt know a fake if I had one. Ill stay back from this thread

Subterranean asked for a Hallmark. I gave the back a good cleaning. There is no mark. This item is a nice piece of work. One would think there would be a maker mark. In cleaning the back, it has a steel/silver look. Not magnetic. We need a CHP officer to chime in.

Too small for a wallet badge. My guess is that it may have been attached to a money clip. I could've ordered one of those when I retired from my Dept.

I don't think its associated with the CHIPS TV show. The relief on it makes it look a lot older than that to me. I think Orge has the right idea. Not a badge that would have been issued to an officer but some kind of commemorative emblem. Its very cool whatever it came from.
