They are tearing up a huge section of street and sidewalk near my house.

Actually, its been torn up for some time, but I've not been able to get out and hunt. Finally today I did, and went to hit this big construction site. It goes for several blocks, and the whole street is closed. I didn't get to hunt where the road was--I was too late for that--so instead I focused on the sidewalk areas and where people's lawns had been torn up to make room for sidewalks. This area isn't too awfully old, most of the houses were probably built in the 40s or so on average.

I could tell by the occasional hole that I was not the first to detect the whole area, but there were several areas where I seemed to be the first to hunt in that section. One lady drove by and yelled out her window "someone already beat you to it". I shrugged and yelled back "they didn't get it all" and she made a weird face and drove off, undoubtably wondering what all we were finding.

I wasn't finding much, but whoever hunted it so far did miss a few things:

Thanks you guys!

Nashoba I didn't have to clean it at all--I just rinsed it off. Most silver here in Portland comes out looking pretty good. The Yakima Valley has good looking silver, too. Mostly the ugly silver I've found was around Puget Sound--I'm guessing because of all the salt.

LC-102: dang that *is* the same! You got a better shot of the back than I did.

You never....ever....pass up those sidewalk tear ups!!! It would be like Christmas without the Tree, Halloween without scare Gypsys........lol ;) Easter without the Bunnie...........What I'm trying to say is that the two go hand in hand, You see the construction you find a way to detect it!

You would be walking back in time and basically Picking the coins up off the ground! When they laid down that concrete some decades ago they used just wooded forms, and in most cases no base underlayment (gravel). Soooooooo.......They just simply covered up all those goodies for the taken ! You get the picture!

Great Barber and Congrats on some nice finds! ;)
