Took the misses to a town about an hr drive away. We diverted on the way back to a small place called Stuart Mill. Old gold town, maybe 50 people or so live there, no shops, but the countryside is beautiful. Was expecting much more water in the res which is nestled in between the hills there. Usually great trout fishing but for some reason even with our wet damp winter the water was way down to just 20%. Had a fish but never even got a follow.
We went for a nice bush walk instead.

The other side. We should have been standing at the waters edge in this picture.

Looking back towards St Arnaud way north.

Ants seem to be anticipating rain, hope they get it there.

These were growing in quite a few spots there.

I must agree - "countryside is beautiful." Wonder what "feeds" this water... Sure hope it fills up shortly.
Hi. Its all filled by rain run off from the hills and gullys in the area.
There are two reservoirs there. That one is the bottom town supply where your only allowed to fish and there is another one above it up the gully. The top one used to be recreational. Years ago in summer it was like seeing one of those summer holiday movies where its full of people canoeing, swiming and camping. Has been empty the top one for easy 15 years. Nobody camps there anymore like they used to. The rain just doesn't seem to fall in the area like it used to, to fill them.
Fingers crossed some comes and does.

Beautiful scenery Chilli, hope you get some moisture soon to replenish the systems.

That red mushroom is a Amanita Muscaria-somewhat a hallucinogenic.
The active agents are muscimol, is known to be psychoactive, Ibotenic acid, a neurotoxin.
Not a recommended choice as it's classified as poisons.
Though it's use in Siberia is noted as the Shamans would consume the mushrooms and then others would drink their urine as it still contained the psychoactive elements but fewer side effects.

Thanks for the explanation. My first thought was "beavers" doing their thing. :) I've been watching toooo many survival shows lately. :)

Is that mushroom the same as this one from NC?

Chilli, have just recently gotten into watching Dr Blake , set in Victoria. Is that a popular show down there? The scenery looks great, dry currently, but very nice.
