The only North American marsupial (has a pouch). Good ‘eatin! Or so I’ve heard.

I had a friend who would eat just about any wild game and said it was very greasy with a very strong not so pleasant flavor.
He definitely took it off the menu when he saw one coming out the back end of a dead cow! :-\:icon_silent::censored:

So it tastes like chicken?

yes, the meat is very greasy, according to what my grandfather used to tell me years ago. He would eat one every year to remember the hard years, however it had to be a really young one. I have never had the desire to eat one. He always said that in the very lean times, "Anything that would make a turd would save a life." He also said that if someone wouldn't eat what was fixed for supper, they just weren't hungry enough or they would be glad or thankful to have something to eat. With a family of ten at one point, meat was hard to come by. the staple was cornbread and beans with some sort of greens if available. So squirrel and dumplings was a big deal back then. I understood that a mature possum required a lot of prep to get it edible LOL. Now a coon was a different matter.

Bar-b-que coon is a thing here in the north on Super Bowl parties.

An opossum has a life span of one to two years, seriously. Depends on how busy the highway is.
