It’s been a little while since I posted finds. Summer is in high gear and with it seems to come a little laziness. I have been a little apathetic toward metal detecting. A couple things have contributed to the apathy. The first is the summer and the laziness that comes with it. It is nice to just come home from work, grill out, go to a summer concert, read a book, go out on the boat, etc. The other part comes from not having any new sites that date prior to the 1890’s. Anyway, the finds from the last few weeks:
One of the more memorable events of the last few weeks was our trip out to visit the University of Toledo. We spent the night at my mom’s cottage on the Sandusky Bay. We took the little boat across the bay exploring.
Didn’t bring the detector but I doubt there is much at this old cement plant. Here is a picture of my mom in front of it.
Another funny moment came in Toledo when I had just pulled about 4 Quarters from a hole when 4 shirtless, barefoot kids swam around me. I’m still pulling quarters from the hole and one of the kids exclaims “Hey! A state quarter, I collect those.” Yeah kid, so do I. The other kids states he has a metal detector. Judging from their age(7-8) I figured the kid had a cheap one but I inquired whether or not he knew how to use it and if he had found anything with it. The kid states emphatically yes! So he tells his buddies in his most adult like voice not to “bother the man” and off he goes with the gang. He then comes back with the cheapest radio shack detector with a large old spade. Shortly into their hunt I see the one kid slowly moving the detector with the coil raised at a 45 degree angle. They had located a signal at the bottom of a depression and the other kid was bringing the spade way above his head, gathering momentum and slamming it with full force into the ground! I just shook my head and moved on. Within a few minutes they abandoned their mission and were gone.
HH all.
