Sunday's hunt...

Have not been detecting all week due to a bum left digging arm. Strained the tendons in my left elbow when I did a self move to a new apartment 3 months ago, realized it was not getting better so I finally went to the doctor. He gave me Electro Therapy for 5 days and some medication, after the second treatment of Electro Shock, it felt much better and after the 5th treatment I am doing much better so I did a mild hunt Sunday. Went to a fresh mowed grass field I have nearly hunted out as I have found some very old coins here, 1320ish is the oldest. I had found 4 interesting finds, only dug 12 holes and was ready to stop when the farmer showed up to cut the last of the field. Had some conversation with him and he asked if I could find some border stones with iron in them, I said I sure could try since this farmer has given me exclusive rights to hunt all his fields even when planted. I met him after lunch and was able to locate 3 border stakes for him and determine a corner of his forest that he was very interested in. Also found a few more border stones made of Granite, it was a fun hunt with him and he was very happy, so was I. Here’s the finds. A small bell intact, my third ever.

Obverse of a 1925 Brass Aluminum 10 Pfennig coin in nice condition.

Reverse of the 1925, sometimes they are in nice condition and sometimes they are terrible!

A nice condition pewter buckle, maybe late 1700s, did a quick buckle book reference but did not find it.

A nice small weight. Not sure what kind of weight it is, it says 1/7 and weighs 4 grams, 1/7 of an ounce. The rest of the words are obvious. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for checkin out the post and HH, Mike

Re: Sunday's hunt...

Nice finds.....Is it me or does that coin look like a 1995 over 1925? Cool

Re: Sunday's hunt...

Hey ST, they put a little tail on a 9 to make a 2, it does resemble 1995. I remember the first two I found, came out of the ground in nice condition and I thought what the heck is this, realized it was a 1925 after I cleaned them up. It is interesting. HH, Mike

Re: Sunday's hunt...

Hi, Mike, your weight is coin weight for 1/2 (half) of louidor - it was french (not sure that only french) gold coin and it had different gold amount depending on time and may be something else, but as a rule louidors have weight about 8 grams. Do not know what "SONN" means, on some weights it is a place for producer label.

You may know these sites about scales and weights:

Sand

Added: yes here is content of gold in louidor: before 1709 - 7,28—6,02g; in 1726—1785 —7,275g; in 1785 —6,78g; 1791—1794— 6,84g.. Gold grade had to be 91.6% so total weight is ~8grams.

Re: Sunday's hunt...

Very nice finds. Like the 1925 10 Pfennig. Nice condition. Well, hope the arm gets better.

Re: Sunday's hunt...

as always mike good story good finds congrats and hh

Re: Sunday's hunt...

Seems strange they didn't counter-mark (offical stamp) the Coin Weight. Although I think I can see a 5 left of handle.

Yes buckle late 18th very early 19th C.

Re: Sunday's hunt...

As usual you've found some nice old stuff. It is funny how that 2 looks so much like a 9, don't it make you wonder why they made it like that? It's in really great shape too. Try to give that arm time to heal.

Re: Sunday's hunt...

It's always nice to use your detector to help someone else.

Hope your elbow fully recovers quickly!

Re: Sunday's hunt...

Thanks for the nice comments all! And Sand for helping me ID the coin weight! We have had a lot of rain lately, probably would have went detecting this evening but it is pouring down again. Went and bought a wetsuite for water detecting as I will be buying a water detector soon. You might see some finds from the "Carp pit" soon but no sharks this far inland, LOL! Germans raise a lot of carp, tastes very good but I wont eat it. HH, Mike
