The weatherman said it was going to be 50 degrees and sunny so BB and I decided to squeeze a little MDing time in before winter finally sets in. I had to get a pass from the Warden, darn good thing I have figured out how to forge her signature. ;)

BB and I kicked around where to go and we finally settled on a place. I bought another EX II from a forum member and I decided at the last minute to try it out, I'm glad I did.

Anyway the end of the work day came and it took me 15 minutes to get BB into gear and to get him to change his clothes, of course he was trying to help me rescue the data on my work computer that bit the dust yesterday afternoon. Plugged in a flash drive a small pop and the acrid smell of cooking electronics and my flash drive was toast and then a registry error box popped up and the computer turned itself off. Thankfully I have the equipment needed to get my data back! Anyway got off topic a little.

BB and I were both not very excited about heading out to hunt. The finds from our last outing where so pathetic we didn't even clean them, (at least I didn't). . . .

So BB starts whining that his Truck only gets 2 miles to the gallon and he wanted me to drive. You would think he would learn that riding with me he is taking his life into his own hands, the last time we hunted together I ran over a fire hydrant! Anyway I let him load his stuff into my car and he looks like a homeless guy dragging his white plastic trash bag out of his truck with all his detecting gear in it, his lesche poking out the side. :) A good friend of his gave him a nice bag to put his stuff in but he "lost" it. What was it BB? The big pink flowers on the side or the glitter beads on the strap? ??? :)

We started discussing where to go and I had a place in mind I had a good feeling about, but BB didn't want to go there. He wanted to go to the local school and look for clad. I told him I was tired of clad and junk and I wanted to go find something good. He said the only way I was going to find anything good was if I walked into a jewelry store with my detector, as if. Everyone knows it is hard to find gold with a detector, come on BB! :) Anyway he gave in and we started to hunt. The first signal I got as I was lowering my coil to the ground, I thought to myself "great another defective Beast" but no it was a zinc penny. Then another in less than a minute! I moved over about three feet from where I was detecting and got a strange signal, wasn't trash but wasn't really a good signal either and it sounded a little funny. I dug down 5 inches where the machine said the target was and pulled a cruddy encrusted coin out of the ground and threw it in my bag, little did I know that I had just found a suprise!! About that time I started looking for BB because he is a little mentally inferm and it was dark and we were close to a busy street and I kept hearing cars blowing their horns. Well I walked back around the house and I find BB on the ground with a dazed look in his eyes and he is rocking back and forth mumbling to himself like rainman on LSD, "Yeah, definitely a bullet, didn't get it at K-Mart." I walk over to him and ask what he found and he just keeps rocking by this time a little bit of drool starts forming at the corner of his mouth and I start to get worried! :) I reached over and gently tapped him on the forehead with the butt of my Lesche digger and that snapped him out of his trance. He looks up to me and rubbing his now bruised forehead says to me, "What'd you do that for?" I again asked him what he found and he proceeded to tell me and then show me. I don't want to totally blow his surprise so I will let him post what he found. Let's just say that he and I celebrated for like 6 minutes and eleven seconds or so! :) He then asked what I found and I showed him the few pennies, lots of trash the thing I think has something to do with razor blades and the crusty coin. He looked at it and says that doesn't feel right for a penny man. I just laughed at him and tossed it all back in the bag. We detected for a little while longer and I found two keys and some other trash. The coors top is unlike any I have ever seen before but since I don't drink beer I cannot tell you that I am an authority on that type of adult beverage. Well someone came home and we decided it was time to go since we just picked the house at random when we saw no one was home. ;) :D ;D :) ::)

We walked over to the car and BB says man that was great now where are we going to go? Then he started complaining because the temperature had dropped to 40 degrees and he told me his lips and the skin on his face and hands was starting to chap. Oh whahh! ;D :D We grabbed a burger at a local drive through and I scared the woman at the window with all my gear I had forgotten to take off including my headlight! Who knew that peper mace burned so bad!!!! After I cleaned the mace off my face and ate my food BB and I decided to go to a local school and detect an area we hadn't hit yet. One of the city's finest was sitting there in his cruiser watching us get out and get all our stuff together, he couldn't decide what looney bin we had escaped from, I'm sure. We hunted for about an hour and a half and I got a "silver" signal with the Beast that turned out to be a pipe at 10 inches, a big pipe, but a pipe, I left it in the ground. I was completely disgusted at this point because BB found such an awesome thing and I hadn't found anything and BB says to me "Hang in there man you're do." He really is a good friend. :) I walked about 20 feet away and found the ZIPPER PULL my first in a long time. :D ;D :) :) :) :) :) :) :o

Then a few feet away I found a "ring" that turned out to be some kind of threaded thing marked remove this. And then I decided it was time to go since I was starting to go numb from the 38 degree weather. I was walking toward BB and was getting ready to turn off the machine when I got a sweet signal. I have only heard that signal 4 other times with the Explorer II but there really is no mistaking it. 5 inches down I pulled out a very battered silver quarter. A 1934 but hey silver is silver!!!

It really was time to go because I had stayed out 3o minutes past my curfew already. Sad that a 39 year old man has a curfew but such is my life. I went over to BB to show him the quarter and he threw his XLT down and stomped the thing to pieces!!!! After helping him gather up all the pieces we loaded up the car and headed home.

I did find a strange shell casing. It says Western 1918 on the bottom it doesn't look like the primer was ever struck and it has a hole through both sides in the exact same location. It also looks like it was cut down on purpose.

After cleaning my finds this morning I discovered a sweet surprise. BB was right about the coin it wasn't a regular penny but rather an 1893 Indian Head in pretty bad shape. But this is my FIRST IH!!!!!!!!!!! I am so excited. I finally got into the 1800s, BB finally found someting that he and I have been looking for all summer, and I got my faith back in the Explorer. The school we hunted has been hammered for the last twenty years and to find a silver quarter there was a really nice surprise.

So to sum it up: Silver Quarter, Indian Head, two Keys and of course the best of all a ZIPPER PULL!! Also if you look at the picture titled small you can see that I was going slow and digging some really buggy signals, mostly really small stuff.

Come on BB get that thing posted before my head blows off trying to keep your secret.

(BTW we had permission to hunt from the owner of the property but the tenant didn't know and was very nervous when she came home to find us in the yard. We left rather than trying to explain ourselves to any of the boys in blue. We are definitely going back to that house!!!!)

Thanks for reading.

Stoney can tell you the story about 3.2 beer..or was it 3.6? Whatever it was, it was like drinking water.

Glad to see you guys got out before it gets too cold. It's 19 degrees this morning!!! You'll have to move south for the winter, or you'll go nuts not being able to hunt. I can picture you and BB jumping on his digger trying to get it into the frozen ground. :)

Congrats on the cool firsts.

Once again my famous friends, "the TWO stooges" are at is again..... This time I am very proud of your finds Mastereagleson!!!! Baldingboy had good reason to froth at the mouth, congrats to you also BB. Post us a pic!!!!!
Great story ME....Never a dull moment when you two are breaking the law. I mean metal detecting. At least no fire hydrants were hurt during the hunt and no one was attacked by three estranged cross dressers...
For this hunt I give you two five stars.....Continue the hunt so we, as spectators, can relish in your finds. Maybe I'll post soon so you can make fun of me!!!!! Sound fair.

Great hunt guys. I look forward to your next post!!!!!

Scott
