Super thin hornstone blade.

I found this unbelievable knife, it is super thin I believe it is hornstone material,

Me and my cousin were hunting, for about two hours and I walked right up on it.

laying right on top of the ground. I was so happy, my cousin not so much.

choo, I hope you marked the location where that blade came from. That is a Cache Blade and since it's made from Hornstone that would be a good indication of a cache and there may be a lot more just right under the surface. If you can get back to the same spot that it came from take a probe and check the area to see if you can find the cache.

Ditto what Steve said. I'd say you've got a good shot at a cache. Assuming it's on private property, you should probe a very large circle around the area with a bottle probe. (A long piece of rebar will also work since most caches aren't very deep.)

Make it a decent area since a plow could have worked it a surprising distance from the original deposit.

What makes you think this is a cache blade or part of a cache? As opposed to just an isolated preform find. Not trying to argue just learn something perhaps.

thirty, the material, the fine workmanship, and the fact that it's more than likely a Hopewell Cache Blade is what leads me to believe it may be part of a cache. If you took that blade and put two corner notches on it you would have a Snyders Point and that's another reason I think it may have come from a cache. It just may be an isolated find of a really nice Blade, but it never hurts to check and see if there are more in the same vicinity.

Yeah, that makes alot of sense, I was thinking it was possibly a decatur blade, and I've read that archaic caches are very rare. Imagine the excitement of pulling blade after blade out of a Hopewell cache.

Looks just like one of the blades a fellow up north found a cache of 30 or so blades, there just like that, but tryin to find one by probin in a plowed feild is like winnin the mega mill. Im not sayin it cant be done, but most will wear out from diggin every time they hit a zit rock, but! yes they could be just under your feet :laughing7:

Actually probing isn't that hard. Flint/chert blades have a very distinct 'clink' when you bump them with the tip of your probe. I use a probe a lot and from the feel/sound I can tell if something is thick pottery, thin pottery, flint, old bricks, rock, glass, bone, wood (roots), etc.

I agree, starting at nothing and field hunting with a probe would be like using a needle to hunt for a needle in a haystack, but if you've got the site narrowed down to a reasonable area you can search it pretty quickly an be reasonably sure if something is there or not.
