Well pretty sure there was not a suspender clip factory here, :tongue3: but that's what I'm calling this site as I've rescued 5 of them from the dirt at this location.

Today I decided to hit another patch of woods past a small clearing. The second target was this beautiful 1827 large cent. I've only dug two LC's, the first one was almost completely worn flat, this one is the exact opposite. I was doing the happy dance in the dirt. Can't believe the detail on this coin. some minor corrosion on the nose and reverse, but she is still beautiful.

If anyone wants to have a poke at the grade or variety go for it

and it may just be dirt, but it looks like the B and E in LIBERTY are showing a bit of doubling.

Thanks for looking and HH.

Thanks for all the kind replies

Can't wait to get back out to this spot. All the targets have been coming out of the ground in great condition.

unfortunately it is hard to pinpoint what exactly was here. Fires both here and in Richmond in the mid 19th century destroyed most of the records so research of anything earlier than that is difficult.

Thanks for looking and HH

That coin is beautifully preserved for a dug coin, HH

That is a great looking Coronet!!!

Nice. And it does look like doubling on it! There were 12 die variations that year. Some varieties are very common, and a couple are rare. I am sure that the doubled letters can help with the ID for someone who has the Newcomb book.

Thanks Neil, I was hoping I wasn't the only one seeing the doubling, however my wife saw it too and she is never wrong :laughing9:

I found this list of varieties on the old coinfacts website

http://www.coinfacts.com/large_cent...827_large_cents/1827_large_cent_varieties.htm

but they don't give much of a description and being a layman I can't tell one from the next with the pics, except for the obvious die break.

Beautiful Large Cent! Don't see them dug that nice very often.

nice largie!!! MR TUFF

gorgeous coin Bob.. glad that thing wasn't destroyed like most of the coppers out that way
