Suspender Clip? How old is it?

[Lowryevans]

I found this in the woods today while metal detecting. I think it is a suspender clip, but I'm not 100% sure. On both ends of it, it says "S&J". Can anybody tell me for sure what this is, and how old it is?

I don't know for sure but I have always been told they are around 1880 to 1890s.

You may find this page interesting http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/my-collections/141763-suspender-clip-showroom-show-em-off-here-2.html Here is a photo BuckleBoy posted on that thread. Believe it is the same style suspenders as yours. They are probably late 19th century.
