Sorry to hear that Bill, hope it's under warranty.
Pepperj We bought it new in 2011 and it’s my wife’s car
It’s not used much and just turned 39000 miles.
Luckily i was close to home as I lost power steering ..cooling etc and it started to over heat.
Thankfully I have AAA that paid for towing and the mechanic did not know why the belt broke.
We had the car packed with presents and glad I wasn’t many miles from home
Wishing you and family a Joyous Christmas

Yeah that belt should have lasted longer than that. They ain't that hard to replace (little tight workin space probably), but like crashbandicoot said, who drives around with an extra one on hand?

Bummer Dude, 39000 miles sounds low to me for that sort of issue.

Our 2006 Tahoe has 277K miles and the engine is going strong. no issues.
I’m lucky it failed close to home as I had it filled with Christmas presents for a hour drive away.
The car I bought new in 2011 for my wife and thankfully AAA paid for towing.
The mechanic has no explanation why it shredded

Yes the mechanic has no explanation why the belt shredded
Thankfully I was able to drive home with no power steering ..overheating etc
No engine damage found
It could have been a lot worse as I had a hour drive planned to bring Christmas presents

It always sucks to be the subject of a story that starts"it was a dark and stormy night,500 miles from home, when my serpentine belt shredded"!

If you,re mechanically inclined,it,s not a major job to replace one of those, but who goes around with a spare serpentine belt in the trunk?
I had many cars and drove many miles thru the years and nothing like this ever happened
I drove 100 miles a day for the last twenty five years making medical devices and the major problems was ice and snow and tractor trailers

Maybe a rock or something got into it and started a small tear which quickly grew. I used to offroad alot and my belts would get chewed up a lot faster .

Very possible good observation…
The mechanic always does a thorough check of belts and hoses when I get oil changes.
Earlier last week I told my wife I should bring the cars in for a check and never did.

...I’m that guy. I have an extra tensioner too. It’s 35 miles to a town with a parts store. I have never been towed by a commercial tow truck...
