T. W.&W. silver button

I am hoping to find out some more information on this silver button. It is marked TW&W PARIS on the back. I think it's probably military, but, what branch would have a knight's helmet on it? Any ideas on age?

Re: T. W.&W. silver button

While the French military used the crossed cannons, I dont recognize it and I can't find it in my usual sources. Im going to make a wild guess and say not military, but we'll see. A better pic would certainly help.

Re: T. W.&W. silver button

I will post more pictures as soon as I can. I polished up the back of the button a bit and I noticed a bit more tiny text. It reads "T. W. & W." across the top, "PARIS" across the bottom, on the right it reads "M/M" and on the left "15". There is also a single circle of dots around the shank.
Hopefully that little bit of extra information will help. I will post clearer pictures tonight.

Thanks. I have a US military Great Seal button pic with a similar PARIS across the bottom, on the right a single M, on the left 25, and the circle of dots. I dont know what the markings mean. Possibly size. :dontknow:

Re: T. W.&W. silver button

I think my button pic is World War 1 era. Same style but different company.

Also post something for size comparison in the next picture like a dime or nickel. :icon_thumright: Thanks.

So, it looks like mine is 15mm diameter, is yours 25mm?

Re: T. W.&W. silver button

I collected buttons as a kid and bought a jar of old buttons at a yard sale in Ohio for a buck or two that had this in it. I recently pulled them all out to make some brooches and thought I should look some of them up to make sure they're not anything special. This one stood out because it was stamped with a maker on the back. I looked up the maker on Google and found all sorts of buttons by TW&W, but, didn't find any that were quite like the one I have, so, I thought it might be something unusual.
Do you think it has any value?

Re: T. W.&W. silver button

So, I guess it doesn't really have much value considering there are a set of them on ebay right now by a different manufacturer, but, the same front for .99. :D Ah well, it's really cool to find out the history. This site pretty much rocks!
