Got out for a couple of hours this morning and made a few finds, the most interesting of which was a William Howard Taft 1908 campaign button. It's very light...made of tin. Taft was groomed to be Teddy Roosevelt's successor for the Republican party in 1908 and I guess since Roosevelt had a nickname (Teddy Bear) they felt that Taft needed one too and apparently they decided on "Billy Possum". Flattering, eh? I've included a pic I found on the Net of what a shiny new one would look like. Also found twin '44 Mercs, some buckles, a brass doorknob and the label off of a 1925 HP Hood milk can. Gosh I hope this wasn't my last hunt of the year today. :( Winter is on it's way!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Very nice finds. I am a bit partial to those Mercs... good looking little silvers. Billy Possum is also very cool, never seen one of those. GL&HH.

Hello Mr. Digger. Those are some far-out finds. Like 'em all especially the Taft button.

He should have had a different nickname though...his agenda included passage of the 16th amendment...which is near and dear to all who earn their living.

Thanks for the post. C9

Getting a Merc. is a nice hit as the style of the coin is one of the best, but the button is the cream of hunt as it has a real neat history to it, thanks for sharing that with us.

I've never seen one of those Taft buttons dug before. I bet people don't know what they are, if any have been dug before. Those are some GREAT finds!

Congrats,

Buck
