Hi,
Yesterday morning I was 72 coins short of 10,000 for the year. I wanted to get there before the weather turned on me, so I decided to dig up the zinc pennies, well I found 60 of them along with 10 dimes and 8 nickels. I ended up with 78 coins before I quit. Number 10,000 was a zinc cent. I now stand at 10,006 coins. One more silver ring and I will have met all of my goals for the year. HH....Kane23

Wow!!!,,, I don't think I've dug that many pull-tabs yet... :icon_scratch: WTG!!!

is it USA record??

Kane23 answered a few of my questions in a PM. I do thank him for the response. I don,t think he would mind me sharing a little.

His response was about 10 to 20 hours a week for time spent. And the exact numbers can be seen at his profile. They are impressive. I crunched a few numbers to come up with the following. 13.3 coins found per hour and a total $957.94, now that is impressive. I am sure he will top $1000 this year, wow! Way to go Kane23.

Congrats on a great milestone! Keep the fever high. You are an inspiration!!

Although 10,000 is my best year in three years I have done better, finding 12 or 13 thousand several times. In 2001 I was able to go and search other towns every week. That year I found over 100 silver rings and over 20,000 coins. Any of you can do it if you know your detector well and know the right paves to search. I have been detecting for 40 years and have found approximatly 280,000 coins total, over 90,000 since 2001. Good hunting, kane 23

Last year just before I hit 10,000 coins, finished just under 12,000 a gentleman by the name of R.L. Johnson from Ohio sent me an article which I am embarassed to say I cannot find right now... :-[ It was from either May or Sept of 1999, Lost Treasure magazine and spoke of Paul Campbell. It is a great article and he talks about his years in detecting and some incredible numbers over his career. I believe he mentioned finding over 32,000 coins one year. If I can find the article I will post his career numbers, but it is a very inspiring article.

But obviously there are some great numbers here and congrats on hitting 10,000 again. I remember saving every coin as well as everything from keys to toy cars and posted a pic. I got questions from where did I find the time...(I work midnights and can hunt every day the weather allows me too) to people requesting close ups of the coins...(which I left upcleaned/did not tumble till after the pics)...What a mistake! Took 10 hours a day for 8 days to tumble in a double barrel tumbler! :'( This year I tumbled monthly and straight to the bank! Not as much as last year but still managed $710 total.

Good luck on getting to that $1,000 mark this year...hopefully weather is good enough to let you get there. Right now its bouncing between 10 and 25 degrees here... Getting ready to start my trading, buying, selling of equipment season...and coin collecting on Feebay... I mean ebay..

Most of them,probably 90 percent.

For those out there wondering the significance of 90% of the coins being found in Cedar City, the population is only around 28,000. There is a small university there, but still a relatively small town. Big cities don't necessarily give an advantage on finding a huge amount of coins.

Congratulations again...Ryan

Thanks to all of you for all of the kind words. Yesterday I was able to find my 40th silver ring this year,so I have met all of my goals for 2008. The ring was a sterling baseball CTR ring found in woodchips at an elementary school.
I believe I read the article where 32,000 coins were found in one year, the same person found over 800 coins in one day. I remember hearing of someone who came close to finding 40,000 in one year. The year I found over 20,000,a couple of months I found over 3000 in single months. To Top over 20,000 again, I would have to do a lot of traveling and detecting. Who knows what next year will bring? 10'000 coins..? when do you work. and like to see pictures

Now see... that's what I'm talkin 'bout! It's not all about relic hunting or shooting for only old coins. I, myself really love to dig those tot-lots. I have only amassed a little over $270 as I'm dabbling in hunting some old sites and a little bit of water hunting. Next year I'm going to keep a running tally of all clad I've collected rather then just a total. It'll be fun to see how may Zincoln's vs. quarters, dimes and nickles I dig. I've noticed that I will dig more dimes then any other coins. My guess is dimes are easier lost then any other U.S. coin due to it's size.

If you would have posted a picture of all that bounty I would have nominated for the "Banner" as I feel it doesn't have to be old to be a "treasure". Keep up the great work in 2009 and I really hope you reach another milestone.

Great searching to find so many coins, but I agree, where are the photos? No computer, digital camera, but internet and email. Ask your sister to take a photo for us, if you can then send an email you can surely put a photo on the Tnet, or not? Don't you have any friends or family with a camera? Its just that you have never shown us a photo of your finds (as far as I know), we would really like to see so many in one heap!

Woody,
I don't have a PC, I'm at the public library. My wife recieved a digital camera for Christmas, I don't have a clue how to post pictures with it. as for the Ten thousand coins, I roll most of them up and spend them every week, so I could'nt take a picture anyway. If you want to see some pictures of my collection send your email address to clarksegler@hotmail.com and i'll send you some pictures my daughter took. I've been detecting for forty years i have had several articles published in treasure magazines,I've found thousands of silver coins and many gold coins, yet all i get is grief from people who are pissed and think I'm a liar because i can't post pictures......kane23

Yes, those are some impressive stats. Whish I had the time to hunt that long each week.

Congrats on meeting 99% of your goals this year. You may hit 100% before the year ends. Pulling for you.
