test drilling with post hole digger?

has anyone here ever used a fence post auger to test drill areas for gold before they actually prospected in a creek, river or high bank?

100s a times. Cheap,ez,fast and you can rent them all over. I much prefer the 2 man to single as you can add auger extensions to punch really deep. When bottomed out just let'r run for a minute or so to auger up the bottom materials and in a couple a minutes you panning the soil instead of a full day of toil-cool tools and sold quite a few 100 n'the day-John
