I got out to a few different sites over the long weekend. Friday a buddy and I went in search of a French & Indian War fort that some say was wiped out by strip mines. After hours of walking with only a few dropped musket balls and a hand full of rifle cartridges, he agreed to take me to a new permission that he has hit twice and found a number of coppers, buttons, and a linked pair of octagonal silver cufflinks - provided I give him everything I find. Oh well, that's still better than shotgun shells and rifle casings! He hadn't found any Spanish silver there yet, so I took care of that....1773 Half Real

I also dug some buttons, a strap tippet, and a nice Tallio cufflink

Saturday I got out for a few hours to a French & Indian War site that we have hit hard over the years. All the larger signals have been harvested, leaving only smaller items and low conductor tombac buttons. I did get a few buttons and a linked pair of octagonal cufflinks.

I also brought home some of these large head wagon wheel spikes. These turn up at all the encampment sites along this military road from 1758. I'll try and preserve these specimens.

Finally, I spent some time Sunday fighting corn stubble at a mid to late 19th century site that I have pounded hard over the years. This summer is the first year they have ever planted these fields. They planted no-till corn there and I was hoping they cut the corn and plowed the stubble, but no such luck. I did get a two piece B & O button and a little crosshatch pattern button.

Very nice finds Steve. You have all sorts of oldies. I like the wagon wheel spikes, first time I can recall seeing them.

Thanks for sharing and good luck sir!

Congrats on another Spanish silver! But I don't think I would have been willing to do that "deal". Nice B&O button from your last site. Hope you bring home some significant keepers next weekend.

Looks like a great weekend!! Congrats!!

Awesome weekend hunt
Cuff links are cool

What kind of friend makes you give them your finds, lol?

Great finds Steve

Up to your old tricks I see Steve. Finding great Colonial relics. Like those cufflinks. HH, Q.

Nice finds. Maybe you can return the favor and take him to one of your spots and make him give you what he finds.

Very nice variety of finds you made!

That's some nice stuff right there congrats

Nice addition to your silver collection Steve!

Nah Bill, I gave it to the guy who took me to the site. He wants to keep an intact collection from this little house site. We did however discuss the inscription you added to my copy of your book after I found the Spanish LOL

Actually, even though I didn't lay down the rules that he had to give me what he finds, and he did hold onto this piece for several months, after I gave him stuff from one of his other sites, he returned this Spanish coin button to me to add to my collection from a particular site.

I know Thad, would much rather keep the finds, but he is trying to keep everything intact from this site. Plus it's not like I haven't found Tallio cufflinks before lol

Hey Joey, if you had said that to Bill once upon a time, where would Lord Baltimore be :laughing7:

Thanks, Quindy! Where have you been hiding?

That B&O button is sick! I got a couple LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) buttons but that B&O is sweet man!

I would hunt a site like that in a heartbeat even if I knew I was giving up all the finds. It's the thrill of the hunt for me. The finds are nice too, don't get me wrong. With my luck though that'd be the day I finally turn up a gold coin. :laughing7:

That's one heck of a variety Steve! Congrats on all the goods

Any idea of the age of those tallios? I found a connected set a few weeks ago at an old site but don't know much about them.

I was thinking the same thing, what if I find a Draped Bust half dime or other early US silver :laughing7:
