The Arabia is a side wheeler steamboat that sank in the Missouri River near what today is Kansas City, Kansas, on September 5, 1856. The boat sank after hitting a tree snag submerged in the river, and was rediscovered in 1988 by a team of local researchers.

That,s really nice jeff,I,d read about the Arabia,but never seen the actual articles recovered.There,s 100s of old steamboat wrecks in the rivers,Mississippi,Arkansas,Missouri,White,Red,Ohio,Tennessee and smaller ones too.Thank you.

That,s what makes finding and exploring these old wrecks so difficult.The big rivers especially change constantly,what was once river is now dry land and vice versa.Always depositing new coverings of sand and silt or washing it away,most are found accidentally.

Evidently the river muck covered and preserved it rather quickly, otherwise oxygen and microbes would just eat up the wood and clothing.
