I found this on the surface of a dirt road leading to the field
I had been driving over this for years and I kept seeing shiny black
It got a little bigger each year until about 2 inches of it was showing
last year I stopped and took a screw driver and poked beside it and pryed it loose
I almost crapped my pants when I saw what I found

Great find,and story.

Steve one of the farmers I know had the same thing happen to him. He had a road leading to a early archaic spot in the field. You know the routine when it comes to planting. Two years ago we were talking and he told me that he always drove over this stone and was deliberately trying to sink it further in the ground as it was lifted out some but not distinguishable. He told me that he had gotten sick of running it over when he got off the tractor with a shovel he brought and dug it out. That is when he found out what it truly was. A very large axe!!! Great Story man and a beautiful find!!!!!............................GTP(Chris)

Dirt roads are so under estimated. I've found things a few times, but not an axe. It's great to find something that gets trampled on continually. Great save my friend!

This reminds me of a guy that was driving down a county road and had seen a axe that rolled down the bank of a cut sand hill beside the road. When ever I see this type erosion on a bank along the side of any road I'll try and stop.

That is a super nice find!
