THE CHISHOLM TRAIL HUNT

I was gonna ask some more directions, but,if you're having a cattle drive thru downtown, guess I'll just go west til I smell it and south til I step in it.
Hope that bake sale isn't downtown, can you imagine 'those' pies and baked road apples?Wheew!
What's the high school kids gonna put on for donations?Carwash?Bake sale?Gotta help the band, cheerleaders, sports or other.
Hope I make it out there.

MasterEagle,

There is CW camp (Camp Schofield) N. of Newkirk OK., which is the closest one that I know of. I hunted there a few years ago. I tried to locate the farm a few weeks ago...and I couldn't remember which property it was. This must be the onset of old age, lol.

You might check with Stoney...most if not all of this property is owned by one guy that will not let us hunt. Maybe Stoney can get you in to another property...or maybe I will be able to recognize the farm house next time I drive up there ???
Here is a link to where I posted my finds from that hunt:

Have a good one,

Timberwolf

Camp Schofield was actually a 3 month encampment or bivuac of upwards to 1,500 from several states. While there, they also patroled the border of Kansas/Oklahoma preventing early illegal settlers from trying to homestead before the Land Run.

Hey Burdie

Sorry to be so dumb but what is this "Talking Tombstone" thing that is on the schedule? I guess I could try to google it and find out but I thought asking you would be better.

Reenactment of people that lived in Caldwell that played a big role in our history. These people are actually buried at the cemetary.

I figure I'd drive around acting suspicious till the local constabulary inquired what I was doing
I'll drop Burdies name and see where I end up...either where I'm supposed to be... or jail. ;D ;D ;D

mastereagle 22,you remind me of my middle son,Lance. When he was about 7or8 we did a move from KC to CO.He discovered mile markers. He counted off each and every one,1,2,3 up to 496mi.It made that trip one of the longest I ever had and I was driving as fast as I could.Of course, the worst as far as time is concerned, was unfortunately in the great state of Okla.I was unlucky enough to have to cross that state in '53 or'54,east to west. The speed limit was 50mph and I thought that the only job in Okla was as a state trooper as there was one every 10mi.I thought I would never get across that state. This was when there was no speed limit in MO or several other states and I was used to 80-85mph.(no interstates or turnpikes then)
But keep counting-off the days!

Yours is the first post addressing the countdown posts. If it is a bother I will gladly stop doing it. I am just so excited to get to go to a hunt and meet so many good people from this forum. It gives me something to look forward to. This hobby has given me a whole new outlook on life and a super great friend I would never have made otherwise.

Besides, tell me you aren't excited about the hunt. Go on tell me...

No,it is certainly not a bother to me.We still laugh about Lance counting the miles. It does not upset me in anyway and sorry you took it that way. Please forgive this ol' man who doesn't know how to say what he means. And ,yep, you bet I'm excited for the hunt to get here,I count the days with you and like I said, keep counting, pls.Didn't mean to upset you.

Hey it's ok I am not upset at all. I just didn't want to let my childish enthusiam be a bother to anyone, not just you. You said what you said just fine. I did not think you were being mean, or complaining. You may or may not know that I hunt with Baldingboy a lot. Well trust me after being around him as long as I have it would take WAY more than what you posted to get me upset. I can't wait to meet you in Kansas. This thing sounds like so much fun!!!
