THE CHISHOLM TRAIL HUNT

Caldwell was a tad rough and the saloon perhaps rougher. One resident complained of the Red Light saloon:

The scenes there presented reminded me of the early times in Cheyenne, when murcer ran riot and the pistol was the only argument.

Outside of Caldwell was a hill where the damsels would maintain a lookout for the trail herds coming toward town. Thus with warning, the saloons and girls could get ready for the expected rush of business. Caldwell in its first three years went through nine town marshals, several having met their Maker near the saloon. On June 22, 1882, the town's tenth marshal was killed in the Red Light Saloon. With the killing of Marshal George S. Brown, Caldwell had enough of the saloon. The proprietor and proprietress of the saloon, George and Maggie Wood, found it expedient to leave town. As the town residents were bidding the Woods farewell, the saloon mysteriously caught fire and burned down.

Neat Photos Gypsy I have not seen them before. Yes more lawmen died in Caldwell than any other city in the 1800's.

COSAND & MOSSER, PHOTOGRAPHERS.

Do all kinds of work in the best of style. Keep a good assortment of INDIAN PICTURES AND VIEWS.

Office East side Main Street, Caldwell, Kansas.

The neat thing about the main street Photo is most of those buildings are still there less the awnings. I believe the first piture is off a block or something. I am very curious about that photo.

Only 6 hours away...thinking real hard on attending, but work schedule hasn't been posted yet...hopefully it won't fill up before the schedule comes out.

Come on Eagle, thats only one more hour than my drive.
Youuuuu Cane Dooo Eeeet!

Hope the schedule works out for ya.

Ok, Eagle, I'm driving all the way from Manassas, VA....check how many hours & miles I will be driving... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D In my younger days....many, many, many years ago...I used to make the trip from here in Manassas, VA to Enid, OK in 26 straight hours. Now...with bathroom breaks and snoozes, I do it in 3 days. Of course, if I get sidetracked at one of these reservation casinos that Burdie and Stoney have told me about....it might take a couple of weeks....LOL :o :o :o ;D This will be my first hunt, so you've got to see me make a fool out of myself. Be my luck that I'll get lost in Caldwell and end up in Wichita....ha/ha

I can tell you, Eagle, that from the get-go of my first contacts with Stoney and Burdie, I have never been more welcomed than from this CTH group....and nobody has ever met me...and I've never met them. I'm really looking forward to this hunt.

Mine too, I read about these hunts, but none are ever close enough.

I did ask the Mrs. if she wanted to go with me - I DID NOT MENTION THE A$$ ORGANIZATION EITHER (I might be be slow, but I sure ain't ignorant ;) ;D) :-X. She's uncommitted. Hopefully, on Wed. I will know about schedules.

"Gypsy stay out of my photo album.
Burdie"

Gypsy, thank goodness you didn't print the pictures of Burdie and Stoney swimming in the cow tank... :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

The whole town will have sales and arts and crafts that weekend. Does she like that eagle? Even a sculpture that sells his items for $1500 each.
