What makes you think that your thoughts are your own ?
Where do they actually come from ?...
The subconscious is the modern 'culprit', accepted by many but not really understood nor verifiable. The inner self, the ether, the collective common thought plane 'akashic' , some external force... perhaps just random.... The reality is that we do not know where these 'thoughts' come from.. so how then can we judge those who 'think differently' ? or deem that they don't 'think at all' ? ... when we don't actually know what it is we are judging, nor are we capable of making such a judgement without aligning it to external accepted common experience.... perceived reality. Critical thinking is no different than any other form of thought, as the critically minded person is also unable to verify the origin of their critical attitude nor the authenticity of what they think... The great thinkers of history always came to the conclusion , in their own ways, that it is all a trick of the mind.. Revered thinkers of the modern era from Plato, Socrates and Aristotle to more recent 'thought explorers' like Jung, Nietzsche and Freud, along with many others have all tried to explain the origin of thought.. mostly very very interesting, clearly well constructed and explained, but ultimately they, like you and I, had no clue where their thoughts came from.
Therefore , in my opinion (based on thoughts of unknown origin) I propose that proclaiming oneself to be a 'critical thinker' and somehow superior to a 'non-critical thinker' is just another expression of insecurity and an attempt to elevate oneself at the cost of others... the human condition.
No advancements that are beneficial to our kind will be made in such paradigms..
The wonderful exchange or dialogue, between Socrates and Euthyphro , by Plato lends itself well to this form of judgement mentality..
