My son and I hit a 1960's built school close to home to test out the new 9x8 coil I just bought for my Tesoro. I needed to at least upgrade my coil to be able to have a fighting chance against Ridley, until I can buy a better machine.
Anyway, we just hit a small side area where some picnic tables are. I dug while my son swung the detector.
We found 14 dimes, some were 1965, 66, & 67. One of the quarters was a 1967. I'm thinking there may be some silver to be had.
The funny thing was, I about soiled myself when we found this large silver coin at about 4" deep.
I thought it was a walking liberty half at first!!! Turned out to be a 1974 Five Franc coin.
Look at the comparison in the photo. At first glance it was a fooler.
We only hunted for about an hour, but it was time well spent.

The French sure make nice looking coins, no French jokes please, I'm part French lol.

I've found a couple of coins that looks similar to yours. But they're the size of a dime and I think 1 is the size of a nickel.
