Iron Bros out on a reunion tour is one way of putting it!
Out digging with Iron Patch on a site we haven't visited in many years. The farmer remembered us from years before, he recently came across an old coin I gave him from our initial trip there so long ago!
Back on the site we started finding what was missed before.
Interesting finds included a two piece militia button, a grenadiers cap badge, an a really gilt two piece fouled anchor button! Also, one of the coolest crotal bells I've ever seen.
On our next site we visited our great old militia site. The adjacent bean field was cut down and in it I found a little patch that gave up my first intact sling buckle and super gilt, minty really, militia button!
This awesome button is from our first local militia in the 1790s! Raised to defend against the threat from the "Americans " who they were at war with not so long ago.
I know that many would not see or understand fully the significance of such a thing but for us it's a find that takes us back to ones who made where we live the place it is today!
So, it has a special meaning and it's awesome to boot!
Looking forward to doing it all again soon!

Holy crap...that militia button deserves a spot on the banner...its got my vote!

What era is the Grenadiers badge?

the grenadiers badge is probably same era as the two piece buttons that we were finding...late Victorian roughly maybe even turn of century

that button is heart stopping to say the least, I can name a few other quality finds that would be better suited to be on top of the opening page than mine
I'll gladly stand in line though
thanks Romeo

I've found so many frags of the sling buckles over the years and never a complete one , all I can say about that one is I'm astonished it survived since the section it was found in is ploughed regularly
it and the button were close, low traffic area

here's the big kicker
I should have taken a before pic. The after pic says it all but out of the ground it was all crusty dirt...I noticed gilt on a small portion of the face that was visible through the dirt and knew then there was a shot at something good
Literally three minutes in the juice and this was the result
and yes it's my best, by leaps and bounds
thanks, I hope to see you getting some stuff to post up soon
