The old motor speedway.... first finds but not the last!!

I tried to post this a few weeks ago but I guess my crappy internet service was messing with me again.So better late than never.I'm sure you guys up north won't mind a few pics of some sunny,green foilage here in Florida.The finds were not much to speak of but this was my first hunt at this site and i'm sure i'll find something good before it's over with.I must of passed by this place a hundred times on the way to some property I have out in Hendry county,just never stopped.I did this time.I only found a single nickel,an old winch or something,an old volvo wrench,an old perfume bottle (the nickel is sitting on it),many pull tabs,some .22 shells and other junk. I found a small hole filled with old beer cans and stuff,I saw a wild boar take off into a thicket of Palmetto and scrub.All in all it was a good day just to be there.Peace!

Yea, fire ants are not native either. They have no natural enemy here. They want to release a wasp that kills fire ants.

Reply #1, the pic with you standing, shows a Brazilian Pepper (Holly) Tree behind you, with the little red poisonous berries. They are not native and like to grow on disturbed soils. Buy a US Geographical Survey map of your area. Try Jets Outdoors(Bird Rd. Miami) or Bass Pro Shops. The ones that I bought at Jet's for Everglades were made in 1973 and show old trails and buildings. I dont have your area but if you get the 73 version might show something.

There are a lot of wild hogs in Hendry County. They hide in the palmettos in the day coming out to feed mostly at night, early morning and late afternoon. Putting a feeder on your property should be legal. 8)

Thanks for the info.BigC! Got off early today,not by choice though.We were making too much noise for the white collar's in the building! You know, hammering and such. Always happens in Miami!

Maybe just the start of some interesting finds.Good luck with the site.I agree with dahut, maybe bring a bow with you next time for the wild pig.Looks like it might have been used as a party spot some time ago although I don't see the fun in partying with fireants!

Thanks and that's funny that you mention bringing a bow.I just picked one up over the weekend for free! And yes the fireants are running buck wild out there!
