"The Olde School House" - 2nd Days Finds!
Hello Friends!
I went back to the old school house for a 2nd day of hunting today and was rewarded with some interesting finds!
The morning started out pretty slow . . . I started by hunting in front and along the sides of the schools foundation. I found the lead "piggy" and a couple of pieces of the original handrail from the front stairs of the school. After that I only found a 1938 Canadian Penny and lots of pop bottle caps.
Following a break for lunch I turned my attention to the "playing field" next to the school, this is when the finds really started to pop up!
I started by finding an 1882 Canadian LC, my first 19th coin find too!
Next I found the "Love Birds" charm, them BAM!
I found two rings! Both are junkers, but the one with the blue stones certainly could be a candidate for re-plating and restoration!
The 2nd ring with the clear stones fell apart when I cleaned it . . . but I saved the stones for future examination.
I then found a very solid, silver-plated spoon marked NEVADA D & A. With some on-line research I was able to determine it dates to about 1890 and was made by Daniel and Arter Ltd. of Birmingham, England.
Hope to get back there again this weekend!
Thanks for looking,
Dave
PS. Sorry about the picture quality, my wife's still in Toronto with our digital camera!
