The other big un from early June

OK, heres the other one from early June. Just got the pic downsized. Thanks again 37!!
This one is about five inches long and white novaculite. Held in strong light its about 50% transluscent. I found it a day or two later after the big black one, and just a few feet away. Darndest thing about the both of em is that I never had an inkling that I had found "big uns" until I had tugged them out of the ground and sat staring at the "thing in my hand".

Another great big piece, congrats on those finds Jonnyreb. The similarity and close proximity in which they were found sounds like they could be part of a cache. I'd hit that spot hard.

Wow. That is very large. On the tip is that fire pop ? Did the other have any fire pop on it? Might just be a round flake knocked off. If its fire pop there might be more in that area. Way to go on your finds.

Could be a fire pop on the white one. Being novaculite, that stuff has to be heat treated to be worked into points. The sliver on the base of the black one looks like its been chipped around, so I think that may have just been on the original blank before the dude decided what he wanted to make from it.
I have dug and poked around about a five foot radius of where these two came from and found a few gary points, just typical of the type, anywhere from 1 1/2 to 2 3/4 inches long, and strangly enough, an old metal "shot mold" for making musket leads. This site does sit between the historic period villages of Nanatsoho and Nasoni on the Red River. A Frenchman named Bernard de la Harpe founded a trading post around here at the end of the 17th century.
